Doctors on Strike ... a Flash Report...... Thousands of doctors from every corner of Mumbai landed at St. George Hospital under the scorching heat at 1.45 p.m. with a single minded determination and a steely resolve to make a breakthrough on the burning issue of “Violence against Doctors”. This mammoth show of solidarity was possible due to the collective efforts of AMC, IMA Maharashtra, GPA, MARD and doctor cells from all political parties.

The present issue was unique for many reasons. For one, the doctors were fighting for their “pound-of-flesh” literally. We wanted to make it clear to all concerned that enough is enough; we will not tolerate any further threat related to our medical practice nor give in to hooliganism. Secondly, it was a massive demonstration of strength in numbers to impress upon the authorities of the gravity of the situation. It was a pure survival instinct which brought scores of doctors on the street to lead a peaceful march to the Collector’s office. Thirdly, every doctor had taken care of not ignoring their basic duties and attended to emergency calls and treatment of their indoor patients. Probably, this strike will go down in history for protesting with peace against violence.

A memorandum of the issue at hand was given to the Collector, Hon’ble Governor, Health Secretary, Home Secretary and Law Secretary.

It was indeed heartening to see the solidarity of doctors of Mumbai of every category uniting to uphold the dignity of our profession.

A big “Thank You” to all our members for responding to a SOS Call of strike.

We will keep you posted of the developments.

Regards,

AMC Managing Committee
